Ahora que ya hace una semana de los premios Oscar, podemos decir que ya ha acabado oficialmente la temporada de premios de 2014-2015.
Por ello, toca mirar hacia adelante y ver lo que nos depara este nuevo año cinematográfico. Pero antes de despedirnos de esta temporada y dejar atrás películas como Birdman, Interstellar, Perdida, Boyhood, Imitation Game, y muchas más, los chicos de Indie Wire han preparado una serie de entrevistas con los grandes actores del momento.
Sus procesos creativos
Cuándo empiezas a prepararte un papel, ¿Qué proceso tienes? ¿Por dónde empiezas? ¿Cuál es tu metodología?
Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game): Creo que el mío no para de cambiar. Suelo buscar y casi siempre se trata de indagar dentro de los personajes. Hay que intentar ver el mundo desde los ojos de otra persona.
I think mine continues to change. I tend to look for and it’s always about the internal mapping. So, it’s about trying to see the world through somebody else’s eyes.
Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year): Creo que busco el motor de un personaje, desde dónde está operando y lo que gira por dentro; busco el combustible que le está empujando hacia adelante.
I think I look for the engine and where he’s operating from, what’s turning inside. Where is the fuel that’s propelling him forward.
Jessica Chastain (A Most Violent Year): Creo que mi proceso cambia con cada personaje. Siempre empiezo pensando en lo que el personaje dice sobre ella misma y lo que los demás dicen sobre ella.
I think my process changes with the character. I always start with what she says about herself and what other people say about her.
J.K. Simmons (Whiplash): Empiezo conduciendo hacia el trabajo y con la rabia por culpa del tráfico en Los Angeles.

¿Importa lo que digan los demás?
La gente habla sobre tu película o sobre ti en las conversaciones de las galas de premios… ¿Te importan estas cosas?
Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher): Me importa mucho y es una de las razones de por qué lo hago. Cuando has sufrido tanto con algo durante mucho tiempo, llegas al otro lado del proyecto, lo pones delante de un público y ha sido recibido la misma forma que recibes tú la historia… es un sentimiento único, no hay palabras para describirlo.
I care very much and it’s part of the reason to do it. When you struggled with something for a long time and when you get to the other side of it and you put it infront of an audience and it’s received the way you receive the story.. it’s quite a feeling, there’s no real words.
Patricia Arquette (Boyhood): Es increíble que la gente de tu sector y gente que aprecia tu trabaja hasta ese nivel que hablan sobre ti y los premios. Que piensen en ti cuando hay muchas otras buenas actrices…
It’s incredible to have people in your field or people appreciate your work to that level to even talk about that; to be thought about in the company of other good actresses…
Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner): Significa mucho en muchos niveles diferentes. Puede que aumente tu caché durante un tiempo o no. No te cambia como persona, pero es bonito, es algo muy agradable.
It means a lot on all sorts of different levels. It might increase your caché for a little while or it might not. It doesn’t change you as a person but it’s also lovely, it’s a very nice thing.
Ralph Fiennes (El Gran Budapest Hotel): Creo que lo importante es la oportunidad que tienes de poder trabajar; trabajar con gente como el gran elenco de actores que ves en el Grand Hotel Budapest y si milagrosamente eso hace que nos den premios, entonces todos iremos a decir “vale, gracias“.
I think that the thing that has a great meaning is the chance to work; work with people like the great cast of actors you see at Grand Budapest Hotel and if it miraculously goes and take people towards a price, then one will gracefully go and say “okay, thanks”.
Escogiendo un papel
¿Cómo escoges un papel? ¿Buscas algo en especial?
Edward Norton (Birdman): Siempre es una mezcla entre atracciones e impulsos. A veces es simplemente “Hola, me gusta mucho el trabajo de este director. No entiendo qué está intentando hacer exactamente pero me gusta mucho su trabajo, me gustan mucho los otros actores que están implicados y quiero trabajar con ellos”.
It’s always a different stew of attractions and impulses. Sometimes it’s nothing more than “Hey, I really like this directors work. I don’t understand exactly what he’s going for but I really like his work, I really like the other actors involved and I wanna work with them”.
Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything): Nunca lo sabes con certeza pero creo que es importante en confiar en las personas con quien vas a trabajar.
I don’t think you ever know if it’s completely the right one but I think it’s always just trust the people that you’re working with.
Oscar Isaac: Es como enamorarse; no tienes un criterio claro sobre por qué quieres a esa persona. Es decir, te puedo dar algunos motivos pero es algo innato. Lees algo, te golpea instintivamente y te enamoras del papel. Es como “no puedo dejar de pensar en este papel, la historia y la película”.
It’s like falling inlove; you don’t really have a criteria on why you love that person. I mean I can give you some reasons but it’s just an innate thing. You read something and it hits you on a visceral level and you fall inlove with it. “I can’t stop thinking about this role, the story and this movie..”
Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice): Un personaje que no entiendes o que hace algo que te sorprende. Es muy difícil de encontrar estas cosas; sobresale cuando lo ves, no pasará por desapercibido cuando lees un guión que tiene un personaje así. Así que estoy buscando este tipo de mujeres.
A character that you don’t understand or that does something that surprises you. It’s just really hard to come by this stuff; it sticks out when you see it, you can’t miss it when you read a script that has a character like that. So I’m looking for those ladies.
Los proyectos de sus sueños
Si pudieras interpretar cualquier personaje ya creado o que todavía no se ha creado, ¿cuál sería?
Keira Knightley: Juana de Arco siempre está bien o Leonor de Aquitania porque siempre me ha gustado.
Joan of Arc is always pretty good. Eleanor of Aquitane, I’ve always quite liked her.
Ralph Fiennes: No sería un buen casting, pero me encantaría interpretar el papel de Gary Cooper en High Noon.
I’d be totally miscast but I would love to play Gary Cooper in High Noon.
Jessica Chastain: En algún momento de mi vida tengo que interpretar a Nora en Casa de Muñecas (obra de teatro de Henrik Ibsen) y a Rosalind en Como Gustéis (obra de teatro de Shakespeare).
At some point, I have to play Nora in Doll’s House, Rosalind in As You Like it.
Jack O’Conell (Invencible): Elvis Presley. Elvis Presley, todo el día. Porfavor, que alguien lo escriba.
